There is a lot of ways to get distracted while you are hard at work.

Whether you’re in the office, at home, or working somewhere else, you always are faced with distractions.

Some of these could be

  • Phone

  • Music

  • People

  • Ideas

Just to name a few.

Here is how to overcome those distractions.

1. Control your smartphone

  • Turn off as many notifications as possible. “Do Not Disturb” will stop all the dings and buzzes that come through.

  • Put your phone on the other side of room/in a drawer. You’ll be less tempted to scroll social media if you don’t see the device.

  • Grayscale. Turn your phone to grayscale and the apps won’t aggressively seek your attention.

2. Block your time

  • Time segments. Break your tasks into 30 or 60 minute time frames.

  • More achievable. It will be easier to say I am not going to go on my phone or watch a show for 30 minutes, opposed to “all day”.

3. Keep records

  • Write down any times that you get distracted while working. Do this after you accomplish a task.

  • More control. Eventually, you’ll be able to see a pattern and you can stay ahead of the distractions.
